SG Child Support Package 2026: What It Means If You're Hiring a Helper
TL;DR: At National Day Rally 2026, the Government announced the SG Child Support Package: up to S$62,000 per Singapore Citizen child, including S$2,000 in Child Credits every year from age 1 to 16, replacing the Baby Bonus Scheme. Childcare leave rises to 8, 10 or 12 days per parent. None of it changes what a helper costs, but it changes what families can afford, and it stacks with the S$60 concessionary levy you already get with a child under 16.

What the SG Child Support Package actually gives you
Announced by PM Lawrence Wong on 23 August 2026, the package replaces the Baby Bonus Scheme and the Large Families Scheme. Per the official announcement, each Singapore Citizen child receives up to S$62,000:

Existing Singapore Citizen children born in or turning 1 to 17 in 2026 are included, with top-up payments by 30 April 2027. Childcare leave also changes: the current 6 days plus 2 extended days merge into 8, 10 or 12 days per working parent, for one, two, or three or more Singapore Citizen children aged 12 and below, with the Government reimbursing employers. The start date of the new leave scheme will be announced later.
What this means if you are hiring a helper
The package does not touch helper costs. Salaries, the levy, and insurance requirements were not part of the rally. What changes is the household budget around them:
- The credits are flexible support. S$2,000 a year per child arrives from age 1 to 16, exactly the years when many families employ a helper for childcare. It is general child-cost support, and for many households it will effectively offset most of the levy.
- The concessionary levy stacks on top. A household with a Singapore Citizen child under 16 pays the S$60 concessionary levy instead of S$300, per MOM. That is S$2,880 a year of helper-specific savings, separate from and additional to the new package. See our levy guide.
- More leave does not replace care. Even 12 days of childcare leave covers a fraction of a working year. The leave helps parents handle appointments and illness; the day-to-day gap is what a live-in helper covers.
The real monthly cost, next to the new support
Our Singapore Maid Cost Index puts the all-in monthly cost of a helper at S$1,205 to S$1,430 by nationality at the standard levy, or roughly S$965 to S$1,190 with the child concession. Set against that, the new package contributes S$2,000 a year in credits during exactly the years a helper is most needed, plus the one-off birth-year amounts. It does not make a helper free, but for a family that was on the fence, the arithmetic moved in their favour on 23 August.
