MOM-Compliant Insurance Coverage

All insurance policies offered by Upwill meet or exceed the Ministry of Manpower's minimum requirements

Since July 2023, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has enhanced the medical insurance requirements for all migrant domestic workers in Singapore. Employers are now required to provide medical insurance with a minimum coverage of $60,000 per year (increased from the previous $15,000) for inpatient care and day surgery.

In addition to medical insurance, employers must also provide personal accident insurance with a minimum sum assured of $60,000. Both policies must extend 2 months beyond the work permit period, ensuring your helper remains covered even after the work permit expires.

Upwill's maid insurance plans are designed to provide comprehensive coverage that not only meets these requirements but also offers additional benefits to protect both you and your helper from unexpected expenses. Learn more about our claims process or check our insurance FAQ for more details.

Security Bond Explained

Understanding the $5,000 security bond requirement and how to protect yourself

What is the Security Bond?

The Security Bond is a mandatory $5,000 guarantee required by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) from all employers of foreign domestic workers. It serves as a form of financial guarantee to ensure that both employers and helpers comply with MOM regulations throughout the employment period.

All our plans include a Letter of Guarantee to MOM that removes the need for you to pay the $5,000 upfront, as we act as your guarantor.

Security Bond Protector

For additional peace of mind, our Security Bond Protector add-on limits your liability on the $5,000 Security Bond to just $250 if the bond is forfeited due to reasons not caused by your negligence or fault.

This optional add-on provides an extra layer of protection against potential bond forfeitures due to circumstances beyond your control, such as your helper running away or breaking the law without your knowledge.

Optional Coverage Enhancements

Customize your domestic helper insurance with additional coverage options

Waiver of Co-payment

Remove the 25% co-payment requirement for hospital and surgical expenses above $15,000. This add-on means we will cover 100% of eligible medical expenses up to the policy limit, reducing your out-of-pocket expenses during claims.

Enhanced Medical Coverage

Increase your helper's medical insurance coverage beyond the standard limits for greater peace of mind. Options include higher hospitalization limits, extended outpatient coverage, and additional critical illness benefits.

Dread Disease Coverage

Provides additional financial support if your helper is diagnosed with a critical illness. This add-on is available with our Standard and Premium plans, offering coverage of up to $3,000 for specified serious conditions.

Fidelity Guarantee

Provides coverage against financial loss due to your helper's dishonesty, fraud, or theft. This add-on is available with our Standard and Premium plans, offering protection of up to $5,000 for eligible claims.

Frequently Asked Questions about Coverage

Find answers to common questions about maid insurance coverage in Singapore

Medical insurance covers hospitalization and surgical expenses for illnesses and injuries, while personal accident insurance specifically covers accidental death and permanent disability. MOM requires employers to provide both types of coverage for their domestic helpers, with a minimum coverage of $60,000 for each.

Most basic maid insurance policies exclude pre-existing conditions. However, at Upwill, we offer coverage for pre-existing medical conditions for helpers who have been working in Singapore for more than 12 months consecutively, providing you with additional peace of mind.

For policies with a start date on or after July 1, 2023, there is a co-payment structure for hospital and surgical expenses. The first $15,000 is fully covered (no co-payment), while for amounts above $15,000, the insurer covers 75% and the employer covers 25%. You can opt for a waiver of co-payment add-on to reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.

Our plans provide coverage for emergency medical treatment overseas, subject to a pro-ration factor of 50%. This means if your helper requires emergency medical attention while on home leave or traveling with your family, she will still be covered, although at a reduced rate compared to treatment in Singapore.

Yes, our maid insurance policies include coverage for COVID-19 under the Hospital and Surgical Expenses benefit, up to the policy limit. This covers inpatient hospitalization expenses related to COVID-19 treatment, providing valuable protection during the ongoing pandemic.
