Insurance & Medical Services

Comprehensive insurance coverage and medical examination arrangements for Migrant Domestic Workers, providing peace of mind and compliance with Singapore's Ministry of Manpower regulations.

Your Employer Obligations Made Simple

At Upwill, we handle all insurance and medical requirements for your domestic helper, ensuring full compliance with MOM regulations while protecting you from unexpected expenses.

Under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Regulations, employers are responsible for providing medical care for their Migrant Domestic Workers (MDWs), including both inpatient and outpatient treatment, regardless of whether the conditions are work-related.

Our specialized insurance and medical services ensure that you meet all legal requirements while protecting your financial interests. With the recent enhancement to MDW medical insurance requirements, comprehensive coverage is now more important than ever.

From July 2023, MOM has implemented an increased annual claim limit of $60,000 (up from $15,000) to better protect employers against large medical bills. We help you navigate these requirements and select the best coverage options for your specific situation.

Employers must provide two types of insurance: medical insurance with a minimum coverage of $60,000 annually (increased from $15,000 as of July 2023) for inpatient care and day surgery, and personal accident insurance with a minimum sum assured of $60,000. Both policies must extend 2 months beyond the work permit period.

Your helper must complete an initial medical examination within 2 weeks of arriving in Singapore. Subsequently, she must undergo a Six-Monthly Medical Examination (6ME) every 6 months throughout her employment. MOM will send notification when these examinations are due, and failure to comply may affect the work permit status.

Insurance premiums vary based on the coverage period and selected plans. Typically, you can expect to pay around $367.20 for a 14-month policy (covering a 12-month work permit plus the required 2-month buffer) or approximately $550.80 for a 26-month policy (covering a 24-month work permit plus buffer). Premium costs may vary based on the insurer and any additional coverage options you select.

If your helper fails her initial medical examination, her work permit cannot be issued, and she will need to be repatriated. If she fails a subsequent 6ME during her employment, MOM will provide specific instructions, which may include treatment requirements or, in certain cases, repatriation. Our team will guide you through the process and available options if this situation arises.

Under the enhanced medical insurance requirements, for claims above $15,000, employers are required to co-pay a percentage of the amount exceeding $15,000, up to the maximum coverage of $60,000. The specific co-payment percentage depends on the insurance policy you select. This structure helps balance premium costs with coverage while still protecting employers from the full impact of high medical bills.
