Learn moreMaid insurance Singapore — common questions
Is maid insurance mandatory in Singapore?
Yes. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) requires every employer of a foreign domestic worker to purchase both medical insurance and a S$5,000 security bond before the helper begins work. As of July 2025, the minimum medical coverage is S$60,000 with direct insurer-to-hospital payment for claims above S$15,000.
How much does maid insurance cost in Singapore in 2026?
MOM-compliant FDW insurance starts from S$566.80 for the full 26-month work permit period (Standard Plan). The Deluxe Plan costs S$648.50 and the Premier Plan costs S$730.30. All plans include the mandatory S$5,000 security bond and meet MOM’s July 2025 enhanced requirements.
What is included in MOM-compliant FDW insurance?
A MOM-compliant FDW insurance policy must include at minimum: S$60,000 medical coverage per year, S$60,000 personal accident coverage, a S$5,000 security bond, hospital and surgical benefits, and direct insurer-to-hospital payment for claims above S$15,000. Higher-tier plans add dental, repatriation, critical illness, and replacement helper costs.
Can I switch insurance plans during my helper’s contract?
Yes. You can upgrade your helper’s insurance plan mid-contract by contacting your insurer or agency. Downgrading is also possible but may require waiting until renewal. Upwill’s team can advise on the right plan for your helper’s age and household needs at no extra cost.
What happens if my helper needs emergency medical treatment?
Under MOM’s 2025 enhanced requirements, the insurer pays the hospital directly for any claim above S$15,000 — you do not pay upfront. For claims under S$15,000, you may need to pay first and submit for reimbursement. The Premier Plan also includes emergency medical evacuation back to the helper’s home country if medically necessary.
Does maid insurance cover dental treatment?
Dental coverage is included in the Deluxe and Premier plans, but not in the Standard Plan. If your helper is likely to need dental work during the contract, upgrading to the Deluxe Plan adds dental coverage for just S$81.70 more than Standard — about S$3.15 per month extra.
How do I file a claim?
For hospital admissions, present your helper’s insurance card at the hospital — they will bill the insurer directly for amounts above S$15,000. For outpatient claims or reimbursement, submit the original receipt, doctor’s memo, and claim form to the insurer within 30 days. See our Claims Process page for a step-by-step guide.
