Understanding Home Leave Entitlement
Home leave is a mandatory benefit for foreign domestic workers under MOM regulations
Every 2 Years
Your helper is entitled to home leave at least once every 2 years of continuous employment with you.
Employer Pays Airfare
You are responsible for the return airfare to your helper's home country and back to Singapore.
7-14 Days Recommended
While there's no fixed minimum, 7-14 days is recommended for meaningful time with family.
MOM Regulations on Home Leave
Official requirements from the Ministry of Manpower
Mandatory Home Leave
Employers must provide home leave to their FDW at least once every 2 years of continuous employment. This is a mandatory benefit under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.
Airfare Responsibility
The employer must bear the cost of return air tickets for the helper's home leave. This cannot be deducted from the helper's salary or recovered through any means.
Special Pass for Travel
Your helper will need a Special Pass to travel out and return to Singapore. This is automatically issued when you book through the WP Online portal or your maid agency.
Waiver Documentation
If your helper voluntarily chooses not to take home leave, document this decision in writing with her signature and the date. Keep this for your records.

If Your Helper Doesn't Return
Steps to take if your helper fails to return from home leave
Immediate Action Required
If your helper does not return by the expected date, you must act quickly to protect yourself from security bond forfeiture.
- 1
Report to MOM within 7 days
Log in to FDW eService and report that your helper has not returned. This protects you from bond forfeiture penalties.
- 2
Cancel the work permit
Submit a work permit cancellation through FDW eService. This stops levy payments and formal employment.
- 3
Keep documentation
Retain all evidence: return ticket booking, communication records, and any attempts to contact your helper. This may help reduce or waive bond forfeiture.
